5 out of 5 stars Really bright   November 14, 2007
3 out of 5 found this review helpful

This is my 2nd Honda (CR-V 2002) and just like my accord, the original light bulbs or other regular ones were not bright enough, nor did they project the beams very far (without high beams.) Some of my friends who drive other Honda models made the same comments. I even had the headlights checked for height adjustment -thinking that it might be too low. It was not. So when one bulb burned out, I started researching. I didn't buy Sylvania's equivalent to the GE NightHawk because too many reviews said that they only last 6 months. Hopefully, GE will last longer (could not find any reviews); but in the meantime, they really live up to the advertisement: brighter & longer beam of light. 5 out of 5 stars Awesome Xenon Bulbs   November 4, 2007

After doing a lot of reasearch, I put a set of these bulbs (type 9005 and 9006) in my 90 Accord last year and saw a significant difference in the amount of light and down-road visibility. After replacing my Accord with an '02 Civic, I decided to put these in because the existing long life bulbs were not nearly as bright as I would have liked. There was a tremendous difference.

For fun, I put one of these in and left the stock bulb on the other side. The light was white, at least 30% brighter, and covered a larger area coming out of the Nighthawk. I think there's better use of the reflector with these bulbs. Maybe it's just me, but these seem to cover the road a lot better.

When I was researching replacement bulbs for my old car, I went to Sylvania's website and saw the advertisement for their Silverstar bulbs. I liked the idea of white light, and to be thorough, I went to the specs for candlepower, wattage and rated life. I found out that Silverstars were rated for about 100 hours on low beams (80 on high), while stock halogens were rated for 800. Sacrificing service life for a little brightness didn't seem like a good idea. A few weeks later, I found the Nighthawks by accident in the parts section at W-Mart. I read their claims, looked online, and found that these have the same rated life as stock. I bought them and have been more than satisfied. I haven't tested enough to know if they go 800 hours, but I have been very pleased with the performance of GE Nighthawks. I can see better and farther, and perhaps the biggest difference is during bad weather. I don't see much rain in the headlight beams at all, and when it's foggy, I can still see reflections on road signs. To me, that's really important because I do most of my driving in on mountain roads.

Bottom Line: Any uncoated xenon bulb (i.e. without a color coating), will give you far better performance than stock, and will probably last just as long because of their higher efficiency. But after using stock Sylvanias, Osrams, and Wagner BriteLites (another xenon bulb), I am most satisfied with Nighthawks. They cost more than Britelites, but I think it's worth it because of the added performance. I would buy these again any time I need replacements.
