GREAT HITCH RACK!!!! September 25, 2008 Assembly is easy. Mounting is easy. Used it yesterday and love it! I have three racks and this one is better than some costing 2-3 times more. If you do not like a rack or bike that wobbles while driving this one is for you. It doesn't lock, so I use a cable lock when needed. But it is so fast to mount and remove your bike and NO scratches to your bike makes it an excellent carrier. I HIGHLY recommend it! Stay optimistic and the economy will rebound! Bill
A Great Bicycle Carrier for all Bicycles September 19, 2008 I found this Swagman XC Cross-Country 2-Bike Hitch Mount Rack (2-Inch Receiver)Swagman XC Cross-Country 2-Bike Hitch Mount Rack (2-Inch Receiver), to be an EXCELLENT choice to fill my needs. I have a Giant 'Revive' bicycle which is a semi-recumbant style bicycle and lacks the normal cross-bar to attach the bike. I can load my bicycle by just placing the tires in the loops and slide down the ratcheting arm and be on my way in less than 15 seconds. I also like the way it is attached to the hitch by a threaded bolt/pin, it makes for a very solid and stable unit. You cannot use the recommended locking pin, it will not fit, but not many people run around with a wrench big enough to remove it either. (I did see on another review that Swagman has a 'locking threaded pin' available). I highly recommend it also for the quality overall. The two 'loop' ends can be raised up and held in place by the pins and if necessary the center post can be tilted to the side, or horizontal to gain access to the tail gate without having to remove the carrier. I found the delivery time and FREE shipping as well as the price from AMAZON.COM to be very good.
SWAGMAN 2 BIKE HITCH MOUNT RACK September 14, 2008 This is a great way to haul 1 or 2 bikes around. It secures both step through and regular frame bikes. Mine came with a threaded hitch pin. The locking hitch pin I use for my trailer hitch would not fit this unit. I contacted Swagman and they sent me a locking threaded hitch pin.
Bicycle Carrier September 1, 2008 Met all my expectations from reading the other reviews. It came in a compact package and was assembled very easily. Holds my bicycle very securely. I needed this type of bike carrier as I have a comfort - flat footed bike that does not have the traditional bar from the seat post to the front wheel-steering tube but dips down so is not flat and therefore it would not hang correctly from the bike carrier style that hangs bikes on a bar.
Swagman XC Hitch Mount Bike Rack August 18, 2008 Because my wife's bike has a ladies frame, I wanted this type of rack because it provides more secure support to the bikes.
Some minor assembly is required, but the major components are already in place. I was impressed by the use of tethered lynch pins to lock the arms in position. One less thing to lose!
The rack works very well. It easily supports two bicycles, and after the initial adjustment of the wheel holders, is quick and easy to use. The bikes are secured with ratcheted arms which engage the top rail of the frame. The arms are foam covered to protect the bike's finish. I could not detect any movement of the bikes while driving, although it's possible for the rack to shift slightly in the receiver when cornering.
On the particular unit I received, the powder coating finish was chipped off in several spots, but it can be touched up with paint.
Overall, I'm pleased with this purchase. The rack is easy to use, performs as described, and is reasonably priced.
