Fun for everyone January 9, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is funny for kids and grown up's alike. Adults especially love seeing all the famous artists that are on the CD! I have given this as gifts to all my friends' and relative's kids.
Dog Train for all ages. January 9, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Our whole family have enjoyed this cd of terrific music with silly lyrics! We listen to it over and over! The grandparents even love it!
Not your normal kid music!! January 9, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We LOVE this CD at our house. My oldest is starting to get too old for the traditional kid music, so when we put this on, was he ever happy! It is rock and roll that is soo fun. I swear I pulled it out of my own cd player, except for the kid friendly lyrics.
We listened to it for days and never got tired of it. We like it best turned up loud while on long car trips, the drive goes SOO much faster!!
If you want traditional kids stuff, go for Phili Chickens or anything by Raffi. If you want music even parent's will love, give this one a try.
Fun for Kids, Therapeudic for Parents! December 28, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Dogtrain is a gret addition to Philadelphia Chickens and Rhinocerous Tap! the songs are fun and silly, with lyrics that children can relate to. Adults can also benefit from the lyrics, as they have proven especially therapeudic me. Songs like "Tantrum" and "(Don't Give Me That) Broccoli" keep me from feeling that mine is the only difficult child in the world!
Other particular favorites of my family's are "Sneakers" "Penguin Lament," and"Wave Bye-Bye." We also enjoy "I Need a Nap." I feel that Kate Winselt's vocals on that track are lacking compared to the rest of the exceptional cast; however, my daughter doesn't seem to mind one bit! I appreciate that the songs all have distinct sounds--they don't just sound like different versions of each other.
The CD is just one part of this set, however. The book itself is also wonderful. The illustrations are classic Boynton, which is always a plus, and like the others before it, this book includes simple versions of the music as well. I love this, as I hope that as my still-young daughter becomes ready to learn to read music, she might find this motivating! I also love the pictures and descriptions of the artists in the back of the book.
I must disgaree with the reviewer who said that this CD is like letting your child watch Saturday Night Live. Yes, the music here is a different style than the musical theatre-ish Philadelphia Chickens, but I believe it is completely appropriate for children of all ages. I tend to be overly-cautious (for example, I don't let my daughter watch any television at all), and I wouldn't hesistate to voice my reservations if I had any.
My recommendation--try it!
Our girls love it! December 11, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We had Philadelphia Chickens first, and love that book/CD as well. I had seen some reviews here that gave me a few reservations about this one -- comments comparing this to letting your children watch "Saturday Night Live". We decided to take a chance on this CD, and we are SO glad we did. Yes, the beat on a couple of these songs is harder, but they're fun, fast songs that our girls LOVE to dance to. We want our girls to be exposed to different music types, so we like that this has a more modern feel than Philadelphia Chickens. But the lyrics and themes are all so fun and funny. Our 4-year old especially likes "Don't Give Me That Broccoli", particularly because at the end the singer accidentally eats the broccoli and says, "Oh no, I ate it . . . YUM!" Our 16-month old likes all the songs -- especially those with a fast beat. She raises her arms over her head and shakes her hips to the beat. I really like "Penguin Lament" about the penguin who wishes he were taller and less cute. My husband's favorite is "Sneakers", about wearing comfortable shoes. And we all love Allison Krauss singing "Evermore". I could see that song being a father-daughter dance at a wedding. Even my parents (who bought the CD for us) love the music, and they're not especially into modern rock music. So if you're in doubt, I'd recommend going for it. I don't think you'll regret it!
