5 out of 5 stars Works Great!   August 9, 2008
The clay kit works great!

For the person that claimed there wasn't enough clay, you can probably clay two cars with the amount provided. You simply have to stretch and fold it over itself until you get a clean clay surface to work with. When you cannot stretch and fold to get a clean area, it's time to discard.

It is certainly NOT hard work. With copious amounts of lubrication from the included spray, the clay bar will slide relatively easily along the surface. It is not only fast but fun also!

Also, claying is mainly for the horizontal surfaces as they tend to collect more contaminants.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing product!   August 6, 2008
Upon reading expert advice and customer reviews, I gave the Meguiar's Smooth Surface Clay Kit a try. A few how-to sites recommended to use the clay on only sections of the car at a time - i.e. hood after one wash, roof after another - since it is quite intensive work. Once I used the clay on my hood, I was so amazed by it's effectiveness that I had to continue on working on the rest of the car. My car is 10 years old, and the paint was slightly rough to the touch (even with once/twice a month wash & waxing) but is now smooth as glass. It definitely is hard work, but you will be rewarded with an amazingly smooth finish.

4 out of 5 stars works   July 8, 2008
this product did smooth out my hood pretty well. Not quite the results I expected but it was still a big improvement. Very easy to use/apply etc.

1 out of 5 stars Too Small   June 9, 2008

The clay bar is just so small! Maybe just large enough to prep 1:15 scale model.

3 out of 5 stars gentle clay bar   February 17, 2008

I'm a big fan of clay bars; they remove sap, paint overspray and transfer like nothing else. Plus, if your car is really dirty, it cleans up that deep dirt that can't be removed by washing alone. I was out of clay and decided to purchase this kit. My local car supply shop had this and the Mother's kit to choose from, so I went with this because I can never have enough microfiber towels. :)

This is a good kit, but having experienced clay bars in the past, I have to say this product is dissapointing. The clay is Very mild. Too gentle to really do the work I needed out of it. It DOES clean well, and for the average guy I'd say this is fine. But I rely on clay to remove serious contamination, and this doesn't cut it.

Another qualm: it tends to "stick" more so than some other clays. Usually this happens if the paint surface is hot, there isn't enough lubrication, the bar is saturated with lube, or you use too much pressure, but none of these factors were present. I decided to break out an old bar just to see... and it wasn't me. My old bar worked much better than the Meg's; not only did my old bar (Clay Magic) not have the "sticking" problem, but it also cleaned up that pesky overpray I was after.

So if you are purchasing a clay bar for the first time because you heard it would solve your problems, then this might not be the one for you. But if you are experienced with clay, or otherwise know for a fact that you only want a very mild product, then this is a good bet.
