4 out of 5 stars Hard to prime   November 24, 2008
I had grease all over my hands, garage floor, and grease gun trying to get the pump primed. Lincoln's instructions of leaving the tube loose and exerting force on the plunger handle until grease pushed out of the tube joint is all wrong. You need to take a putty knife and dig the grease out of the tube and press it into the head of the grease gun. Once the head is loaded, screw the tube tight and place the extended plunger handle on the ground. With a small screwdriver or pin punch, press down on the ball valve for loading bulk grease and push the grease gun down on the handle to expell all the air out of the head. Will you get a lot of grease out of the fitting? Yep. Have a couple of rags handy.

I also had a lot of trouble with the zirk connector. Once on the zirk fitting, the only way to release the connector was to loosen the barrel and then pull it off the zirk.

1 out of 5 stars Don't buy this   August 19, 2008
Don't waste your money. Directions are poor, difficult to load the grease cartridge. Coupler won't release from zerk as others have indicated. All in all, poorly designed and doesn't work well.

5 out of 5 stars Good Grease Job   August 16, 2008

I have a possible solution for the tight-coupler problem. I used to have a Caterpillar grease gun that had to be pried off the fitting just like this gun does. It was also a heavy duty, industrial gun like this Lincoln. I like heavy duty, but there is a limit to how much force needs to be applied to free the coupler from the grease fitting. Most do-it-yourselfers have a Dremel. Dremel makes a small, cone-shaped, red-stone bit. It's head is 5mm wide at the base and 8.5 long. I don't know the item number. It is tiny. Under a magnified florescent work lamp, I lightly ground the three crescent-shaped, spring-loaded clamps that grab the grease fitting, careful to maintain the original contour. This took about two minutes. I'd lightly graze all three clamps and then test the connection. I left the coupler a little tight allowing for future wear. This grease gun is top quality. After a two-minute modification, it is now a customized tool. Guys like to customized cars, motorcycles and guns, why not their tools? I needed a tough pistol-grip grease gun to access tight places where it is nearly impossible to operate a lever-action gun. This works for me. Good luck.

4 out of 5 stars Lincoln grease gun   July 25, 2008
This is an easy to use and good grease gun except that the zirt connector is awfully tight, hard to get on and off the zirt fittings. I hope this will loosen up with use.

3 out of 5 stars Coupler Warning   July 17, 2008

I bought an 1134 from Amazon and it is not Made In USA. On to the coupler... there is nothing in the user manual about how it works. And good luck getting any help from Lincoln!

The coupler knurled section is tightened for shipping and you need to break it loose before you use it. It will go on and pull off the zerk until you pump grease and then it will not let go until you back off the knurled section. Don't try it on a zerk that is in a pocket that prevents you from getting your fingers on the knurled section or you may never get it off the zerk. When you have the coupler on a zerk as you rotate the knurled section you can feel the change in how it grips the zerk from locked on to loose and removable.

This feature? may be nice because you don't have to hold it on to the zerk and it will allow very high pressure. But if you need to use it in an area like a U-joint with a zerk that is deep in the spider, and you can't get to the knurled section of the coupler, you have to find a setting that will allow you to pull the coupler off and still seal to the zerk enough to push grease in and not just splooge all over. Pushing the coupler against the zerk while you pump does not seal at all.

Also, if you don't uncock the cartridge spring it pushes the oil portion of the grease out the nifty Lincoln Grease Gun Filler Pump Nipple on the head.
