| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Have you ever heard a car coming down the road with the stereo playing, but the loudest part of the car is the rear license plate? Not a good thing. Vibrations passed to the license plate from the bass energy in the vehicle cause license plate rattle. You can stop license plate rattle with the Dynamat Xtreme License Plate Kit. The kit includes a sheet of Dynamat Xtreme for the back of the license plate. Your installation is complete when you mount the Dynamat "I've Got Better Sound" License Plate Frame, with the four included neoprene strips.

Not as advertised... February 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had read the other review that praised how Dynamat handled the rattles when the trunk was slammed shut. I honestly can't vouch for that either way, because my license plate didn't rattle when I shut my trunk to begin with (4 holding screws instead of 2 solved that problem).
I bought this kit for a solely different purpose -- to eliminate rattles that happened because of my 12" Rockford Fosgate sub. The rattling of the license plate got to be very annoying, even though the plate was screwed in as tightly as possible. Since Dynamat is naturally known for sound isolation for car audio, and because they specifically say "Vibrations passed to the license plate from the bass energy in the vehicle cause license plate rattle" in the product description, I figured I found the answer to my problems.
Not even close.
I knew before making this purchase that the size of the Dynamat provided in this kit is smaller than the overalll license plate. I followed their generic instructions as best as possible -- who were made for general Dynamat installation, not for this particular kit. This means that there was no mentioning of the foam strips, no license plate frame installation, etc. I consider myself to be pretty adept at screwing in a license plate frame, so I didn't overthink the job. I also assumed that the sticky foam strips should be placed right on the edges of the license plate so that the plate should be supported.
End result? No difference. The license plate rattles as much (not more, not less, exactly the same) as it did before. Considering that both the other reviewer and I agree that the plate frame is cheezy, I didn't use the plate frame either.
So I'm out $12, and my license plate frame still rattles...
Don't waste your money on this, buy the larger size Dynamat and forego the crappy frame. That way you'll be able to pad the whole license plate, and hopefully that should solve the rattle problem. Hopefully.
Rattles are for babies December 23, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was tired of my license plate rattling every time I closed my trunk, so I bought one of these kits. It is basically a license plate sized piece of Dynamat extreme with a cheezy plastic frame (that I didn't use), so it would probably have been more cost effective just to buy some Dynamat extreme instead.
The results were great. It actually worked so well that I bought one for my other car. It really excels at damping tinny, metal sounds, so it is perfect for this application.
