Product Description
Boynton rocks! So does Blues Traveler, who perform a stomping version of the title song, a moody rock journey that Boynton wrote especially for them. And then there?s Alison Krauss with ?Evermore.? And Steve Lawrence & Eydie Gorme?really?who do the ?Boring Song.? The Spin Doctors, who channel rock?s rebellious side?with a taste of punk?for ?Tantrum?: ?No No No, I don?t want to, I don?t want to./No no no, I don?t want to, no no./Leave me alone. Leave me alone./LEAVE ME ALONE.? And the sweetly unexpected pairing of ?Weird Al? Yankovic and Kate Winslet (yep, Kate Winslet) as a duet singing ?I Need a Nap.?

Full of attitude, full of fun, all lit up with star power, and boasting a variety of Top 40 styles?rock and roll, blues, hip-hop, and power pop?Dog Train is the third book-and-CD production by Sandra Boynton, following the #1 New York Times bestselling, Grammy-nominated Philadelphia Chickens and the recently re-released Rhinoceros Tap. Like Philadelphia Chickens, features all original songs recorded by a mix of big-name acts and great voices, for the pleasure of the parents as much as the kids. Packaged similarly to the previous Boynton & Ford recordings, Dog Train is also a full-color book that features a portion of each song?s lyrics set as a little story, accompanied by Boynton?s irresistible hippos, cows, dogs, and more dogs. Full lyrics appear in the back.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty Darned Good   December 15, 2008
I have been a Sandra Boynton fan for many years. When my sister gave "Philadelphia Chickens" to my daughter we were hooked. Since then we have also purchased "Rhino Tap" and this one, "Dog Train." While Philadelphia Chickens is still my favorite, my 5-year-old prefers this one. I do truly love the song "Evermore" and feel that it was worth the money for this song alone. Also, as with the other Boynton CDs, I don't cringe when she asks to hear it over and over again. I've even given it to some friends who are new parents and swore they'd never listen to kids' music, and they have been won over. Again, not my most favorite, but still well worth it.

5 out of 5 stars Ride this Dog Train all night long!   December 6, 2008
Another great collection from Sandra Boynton and company. This one is particularly fun for adults because the singers are famous names. I got this for my friend's son (and her, of course) as a gift and we are always quoting the songs to each other. "I need an immediate nap!" and "I'm a little too cute" are our favorites. I love "Evermore" and my son calls it the hugging song because it always makes me want to hug him. My daughter's favorite is "Wave Bye Bye" and she threw out the line about "how can it be a party if there isn't a cake?" at a family party not long ago. Philadelphia Chickens remains my favorite Boynton album but this one is a lot of fun, too. My only complaint is that the songs have more of an "earworm" quality than the ones on Philadelphia Chickens. if I get out of the car while the Penguin Lament is playing, for example, I will walk around singing "I'm a little too cute" all day long. The book is very cute also. I highly recommend this CD to anyone with kids who wants some new music that everyone in the family can listen to.

5 out of 5 stars Grows on you! My son's now all time favorite CD.   May 23, 2008
My son (age 3) got this for Christmas from his Aunt. The first time I listened to it, I hated it and put it away. I couldn't believe my sister got it for him. After a few months we took it out and gave it a second shot. We actually listened to the whole thing this time and discovered some really good songs on it. I was a little turned off because the first song is about someone who cries No, No, No and has some kind of tantrum throughout the whole song. There is also a song about someone who doesn't want to eat broccoli and says he won't try it throughout the whole song. My son is a very picky eater and I surely didn't want him listening to this song. At the end, the person tries the broccoli and likes it, but it is at the very, very end of the song. I had to make sure to point this "positive" side of the song out to my little guy or he would have missed it. When you finally get to song #3 "Dog Train" you see why the CD is such a hit. This song is actually very good. My son is a huge train fan so this song was an immediate hit with him. It is very upbeat and the words are very cute and funny. So are the next two songs, "Sneakers" and "Cow Planet". Sneakers is probably my favorite. It's about a bear who will only wear his favorite pair of sneakers or go "bare foot". My son now goes to sleep listening to this and makes sure he takes it with him to listen to on every car ride. My 1 year old actually yells until I put it on in the car now also. I can see his little head moving back and forth once the music starts. It is starting to get a little tired to listen to over and over again for me but it definitely beats his other silly song CDs. I've given this book/CD as a gift also to a 5 year old and it was a huge hit for her as well. If you want something on the rock and rollish side of music (not Jazz or Broadway) and are tired of the same old kids silly songs, I would definitely give this CD a shot.

3 out of 5 stars Disapointed   January 20, 2008

My husband, daughter and I LOVE LOVE LOVE Philadelphia Chickens so we figured we should try another one of these CD's. Well, sadly this was a big let down. I thought it would be more rock and roll and it was more like alternative rock and roll or something else entirely. It was weird.
There were a few songs worth listening to, but overall we don't like it and will probably never listen to it again. I am going to try Rhino Tap next. I hope it's better than this was.

5 out of 5 stars Very entertaining for children and parents!!!   January 10, 2008
We were introduced to this book by some friends whose children were singing the songs with LOTS of heart at a party! Now my son does the same thing. He loves the songs in this book and so do mom & dad. It is quite amuzing and has provided many hours of entertainment. Be careful, because you just might find yourself humming a little tune from this book. My 3 1/2 year old son sings out loud and puts on a performance singing and dancing to the music. This is a great book!
