Product Description This was my dream hunt for which I trained over a year to get in shape since I knew it would be very demanding. The eight days my guide and I were hunting and backpacking, I estimate we walked and climbed around fifty miles. We navigated mostly up and down very steep mountains and canyons and through rivers, rocks, thick brush, and tundra. My guide was thirty-four years old, and I was seventy. My trusty rifle of thirty-six years is a 7mm Remington Magnum, with which I fell in the river twice and dropped down a rocky place for about forty feet. But it shot true, although it was a little hard to see through the scope because of some moisture fogging the lens. Alaskan Game and Fish measured the sheep horns at 14.6 inches around each base, 37.6 inches in each length, and a little more than a full curl and very symmetrical. The tip-to-tip spread was 26 inches. Since Alaskan records have been kept for the unit hunted, starting in 1984, the average horn length is 34.6 inches and the average percent success is 33 percent. In addition, I was informed I'm one of the oldest hunters to collect a Dall's sheep in Alaska. The facts in this story are true to the best of my recollection, but the names of my outfitter, my guide, and their previous hunters have all been changed.

Not What I Expected April 29, 2008 I had read a shortened version of this book as an article in a magazine. I wanted to know and read more, so purchased the book. It was really nothing more than a slightly expanded version of the first. Didn't get anything new from it, and took me about an hour to read the entire thing. I was disappointed, not what I had hoped.
Inspirational! February 29, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book might be small but it's mighty! I found it to be very interesting and enjoyed how you related the past to the future. Reading the detail account of your Alaskan hunt made me think this should be a movie! Just when you think things couldn't get tougher, it would. To think of all the challenges and accomphishments you and your guide went through and all the tough preparation you did has given me a new respect for an already awesome man. I ordered another book to give to my son, the emerging hunter. Maybe someday, you can autograph it for him. Thanks for sharing your story. Sandra
